Files are downloaded to temporary folder). (It will play in WMP plug-in on the browser. However, it still have to download each file in order to play. Mydlink cloud will allow browsing recorded video easier by selecting date and time frame. File name does show time, but the fact it requires downloading will slowdown browsing significantly. Web interface only allows you to browse recorded video files and you have to download and play each video file. Playback of recorded video without using mydlink cloud service is very impractical. This may cause problem with non-windows computers or other browsers that don't have WMP support. However, playback requires WMP Extension plug-in. Java applet on Firefox and Chrome works good. It fails to connect to camera (possibility security setting problem). D-link says open website in compatibility view, but it still did not work out for me. However, I could not get Active X to run on Internet Explorer 11. It uses Active X for internet explorer and Java applet for other browsers. Mydlink cloud service provides a way to access multiple cameras without memorizing their IP addresses. It is possible to use this camera without joining mydlink cloud service, however it makes browsing recorded video much harder. Only comes with quick-setup manual, which asks to use mydlink cloud service. Setup wizard has to be downloaded form D-link website. However, further configuration will require use of web interface. It is easy to perform initial configuration of camera with setup wizard. DLink shouldn't expect people already have a DVR or always record to the SD card. I really think the camera should come with some kind of software to record video to your PC. Overall Review: I think with some software tweaks this camera can be perfect. Controlling the camera through the web interface built into the camera works though, but this obviously isn't an option if you are away from your home. It is very laggy, and will just stop responding after a short time. You are limited to the low quality video.Ĭontrolling the camera's pan and tilt is almost impossible with the smartphone app. When viewing the camera in remote mode using the smartphone app, you can not watch the HD video stream.

But even this was a little tricky to set up, as originally the software would not detect the HD stream, it would only record the 320x176 video stream. This allowed me to connect to the camera over the network and record from it though a PC onto my network storage. I ended up finding a piece of software called iSpy, which is free. I had to go out and find my own solution. The configuration page that you get when you browse to the IP address of the camera on a computer is very nice, and offers a lot of tweaking options.Ĭons: I was a little disappointing to find no ability to record to a computer or external network storage bundled with the camera. This camera streams the video in several different formats. The setup walked me through it, I picked my SSID and put in my password and the camera connected to my WiFi right away.
